Meet the team: Anjana Mann
For Moranbah lifestyle support worker Anjana, community care is not just a profession. It is a continuation of a lifelong commitment to supporting others.
As a key part of her role, she assists recipients with daily living, community access and working toward their individual goals.
Her pathway into community care began long before arriving in Australia.
Originally from India, Anjana spent years working in a large community supporting families and children, an experience that shaped both her values and her approach to service.
“That experience shaped who I am today,” said Anjana.
“It taught me compassion, resilience and the importance of community support.
Anjana has lived in Moranbah for the past 19 years and has built strong local ties through both employment and volunteering.
Working as a kid’s ministry worker for 18 years and spent nine years in a management role in the hospitality industry, where she developed leadership, communication and organisational skills.
“I always had a passion for community work and wanted to continue the kind of support I was doing in India.
“selectability gave me an amazing opportunity to step into community care, and I am grateful to be able to support people and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
In her first two months, Anjana says she has quickly learned that no two people are the same.
“I’ve learned so much about the diverse needs of each recipient, how every person has unique goals and challenges.
She is particularly motivated by seeing recipients grow in confidence and make choices that support their future.
“I love seeing my recipients happy, and every day they make choices that shape their future for the better,” she said.
“What I’m really looking forward to is more professional development, additional training, new skills, and the chance to learn more about different recipients with different needs.
For those considering a role in the sector, Anjana encourages patience and a willingness to listen.
“Stay open and patient. Build strong listening skills, really get to know each recipient’s story, and remember that every small step forward matters,” she said.
Outside of work, Anjana enjoys gardening and cooking, and values time spent with family and friends.
She regularly attends church and stays closely connected with her extended family and community.
Through her work in Moranbah, Anjana continues a journey that began many years ago, grounded in compassion, community and a genuine desire to help others grow.
