Meet the Team: Tanveer Hussain

11 May 2026

Meet Tanveer! He works alongside young people and recipients in Mount Isa during some of the most important stages of their lives, helping create safe, supportive environments where people can build confidence, develop life skills and work toward greater independence.

As a youth worker and lifestyle support worker, Tanveer supports young people transitioning into adulthood while also assisting recipients with daily living and community support. His role focuses on creating stability, encouraging growth and ensuring people feel safe and supported.

“I work as a youth worker because I’m passionate about supporting young people through challenging times,” said Tanveer.

“I want to make a positive difference in their lives by providing guidance, stability, and encouragement.”

Originally from Pakistan, Tanveer brings previous experience in case management and youth support with him into the role.

Since joining selectability a year and a half ago, he has continued to build on those skills while developing strong relationships within the Mount Isa community.

For Tanveer, the role is centred on helping young people feel heard and understood as they navigate change and personal growth.

“It’s important to me to help young people feel safe and supported as they grow and develop,” he said.

His decision to work within the sector came from a long-standing interest in supporting others, particularly young people experiencing challenges or uncertainty.

“I wanted to be in a role where I can make a real difference and provide support and guidance.”

Through his experience , Tanveer says patience, empathy and consistency have become some of the most important qualities in his work.

“Supporting young people has shown me that building trust takes time.

“It’s important to listen and make them feel safe and heard.”

He encourages others considering the sector to approach the work with understanding and a willingness to build genuine relationships over time.

“Working with young people can be challenging at times, but it’s also very rewarding.

“You need to be consistent, calm under pressure, and willing to build trust over time.”

Outside of work, Tanveer enjoys sport and spending time staying active, with a passion for playing a wide range of sports.

He also expressed gratitude to those who have supported him during his time at selectability, particularly team leader Breanna.

Through his work in Mount Isa, Tanveer continues to support young people and recipients to feel safe, encouraged and empowered as they move toward greater independence and confidence.
