Meet the Team: Paula Davis

For Paula, meaningful support begins with something simple but powerful: helping people feel safe enough to grow. 

Working as a lifestyle support worker and youth worker in Charters Towers, Paula supports recipients to build confidence, develop life skills and continue working towards their individual goals.  

Over the past eight years with selectability, she has worked across a range of roles, including as a key supported independent living worker, building strong relationships with the people she supports. 

“It is a big part of my role to support people to feel safe enough to grow within their ongoing recovery,” said Paula.  

Originally from New Zealand, Paula has called Australia home for the past 35 years.  

“I’m new to Charters Towers and I find in this community they really are accepting and warm to the people I support. 

Throughout her time with selectability, Paula has seen firsthand the impact that trust and consistency can have in a person's life.  

“It’s an honour to build trusting relationships with people who may never had had that experience before. 

Her passion for the sector comes from a genuine desire to support others and help people discover their own strengths and potential. 

“It’s a natural fit for my nature and that makes it incredibly rewarding. 

Over the years, Paula says the role has challenged her to continually reflect, learn and grow alongside the people she supports. 

“This work inspires you to self-reflect and challenge your own perspectives. 

“You can only ask people to do what you are prepared to do yourself within that. 

Outside of work, Paula enjoys walking her dog, dancing and practising breathwork, activities that help her maintain balance and wellbeing. 

For Paula, recovery is about much more than overcoming challenges. It is about recognising a person's strengths, possibilities and potential. 

“Trauma can create a ‘story’ in people’s life. 

“Selectability at its best supports people to see it doesn’t have to be their only story. 

“We are more than our trauma or diagnosis.”
