selectability launches campaign to fill 100 jobs in 100 days

Queensland’s Medium Employer of the Year’s campaign to boost local employment with 100 new jobs in 100 days

Previously out of work retail worker Jack has welcomed the recent launch of the state’s Medium Employer of the Year’s campaign to fill 100 mental health sector jobs in 100 days.

Mental wellbeing and suicide prevention organisation, selectability, aims to use its award winning training program to attract and recruit 100 people from all backgrounds and walks of life - and achieve this goal within 100 days.

With retail and hospitality sectors hit the hardest from the COVID pandemic, regional Queenslanders have been left to consider alternative employment options and industries.

selectability employee Jack said he had managed a local hair salon for five years when in April at the height of the COVID crisis, he received news he no longer had a job.

“My job meant the world to me and I had been with the company since its start, it was a rough time but I decided to put all of my energy into a completely new industry,” said Jack.

“Support work was something I’d been thinking about for quite a while. A friend who works at selectability suggested I apply.

“I got the job and I’ve just enrolled in the Certificate IV in Mental Health course through selectability training.

“I would love to use that as a stepping stone to advance as team leader someday.”

selectability CEO Debra Burden encouraged anyone interested in a career in mental health to take the next step.

“Having an RTO as part of our business means that our employees are constantly upskilling.

“I encourage anyone who is interested in working for selectability but is worried they don’t have the experience or training to get in touch today.

“Our number one pre-requisite for joining the team is a positive attitude – the rest can be learnt on the job through our comprehensive training program,” said Ms Burden

Announced as the state’s medium employer of the year at the Queensland Training Awards online ceremony in September, the award recognised selectability’s best practice approach to innovation in vocational education and training for its workforce.
