selectability announced as category winner in Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards

15 October 2021

selectability has been announced winner of the large not-for-profit category in this year’s Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards ceremony held in Brisbane on Friday 14 October 2021.

The awards, now in its 25th year, recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals, groups and organisations working tirelessly to reduce stigma and support and empower those living with mental illness.

selectability CEO, Debra Burden, said she was thrilled to receive the award for the work that everyone at selectability was so passionate about.

“It has been a big year for selectability so this award is really recognition of the work that our more than 400 employees do every day to enhance the lives of regional Queenslanders living with mental illness,” said Ms Burden.

“At selectability we operate on the belief that people across regional Queensland have the right to access high quality mental wellbeing programs and services – regardless of where they live.

“Over the last 12 months we have extended our physical presence to the Burdekin, Longreach and Bowen, delivering previously unavailable support; along with expanding our program and service offering in our established locations.

“I acknowledge and give thanks to the selectability board of directors for their focus and unwavering commitment that has empowered us to stand up services in locations that other providers don’t find feasible or no longer operate; and to find new and innovative ways of supporting the needs of the individuals and communities across our diverse footprint.”

Ms Burden said seeing the individuals the organisation supported thrive and achieve their goals made the hard work worthwhile and drove them to do more to improve the mental wellbeing of regional Queenslanders and contribute to suicide prevention.

In accepting the award, Ms Burden also acknowledged the state and federal governments who provide funding for selectability to develop and deliver new programs.

selectability was also a finalist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander category for its work to enhance the lives of people on Palm Island living with mental illness.
