Meet the team: Shaun Bramwell

27 September 2021

Meet Shaun, one of our lifestyle support workers from The Burdekin. This is a timely introduction, given the recent news of our successful bid for funding to transform the Caledonian Hall into a community mental health and suicide prevention hub.

Before joining selectability in early 2021, Shaun worked in industrial settings – this included working FIFO in remote mines and a locomotive driver on sugar cane trains.

However, Shaun said it was his role with Queensland Nickel that drew his interest to mental health and wellbeing.

“The company went into receivership and I saw first-hand the mental health impacts of losing work and income had not only on my friends and workmates, but on myself,’ said Shaun.

“From this I got involved in volunteering, providing food to other workers in need.”

Shaun said he was prompted to apply with selectability because he felt he could draw on his experiences to support others going through the same thing.

“I applied to selectability because I want to give back to others.  I enjoy helping people and when my consumers achieve something with my support I feel like I have made a difference.

“I am happy that I found work in the community services sector with selectability. As I believe it is a great company to work for.

“I am looking forward to the mental health hub coming to the Burdekin because of the benefits it will bring to our community.

“It will be great to have a nice location to be based in working alongside my colleagues.”
