Moranbah’s ‘Pick Me Up’ project - promoting wellbeing

24 August 2023

Have you ever been in need of a good pick-me-up after a long day?

Over the last few weeks lucky Moranbah locals have been finding bags of goodies in random places across the town, thanks to a mental wellbeing project being delivered by the local selectability team!

Various delectable bags of goodness have been placed around the small mining town, which aims to connect locals to support services for their mental health.

Regional Coordinator Keri Webster says the feel-good initiative has been putting a smile on the faces of Moranbah residents who stumble across the strategically-hidden surprises as they go about their business!

“The project was really aimed to make someone's day, but also spread the word about the support we provide here at selectability.” said Keri.

“We placed bags around Moranbah in secret places for the community to find randomly.”

Each bag was filled with a range of items like novelties, tea, coffee, puzzles and stationery, which was accompanied by a note, informing the lucky finder of the services selectability offers from the Moranbah Mental Health Hub.

“Each bag also contained a note with a QR code to a form, asking questions about whether Project Pick Me Up brightened their day, but most importantly whether they needed mental health support.

“One positive outcome we have had was a young single mother, who found one of our bags on the way to a doctor’s appointment and came to the Mental Health Hub in need of our services.

“We have had multiple emails and a lot of positive attention on social media from people who loved the idea of the project, which is a really positive outcome.”

Since officially opening its doors in July selectability has continued to find new and innovative ways to respond to the mental wellbeing and suicide prevention needs of the Moranbah region.

Project Pick Me Up in this case serves as an empowering example of promoting wellbeing and connecting the community to available services.

Well done to the Moranbah team!
