Meet the team: Venus Wyles-Wall

29 May 2023

Meet Venus – she has been working for selectability in the small mining town of Moranbah for the last three months.

As a proud Indigenous woman from the Girramay, Warrgamay and Tagalaka tribes, Venus is a strong believer in making a difference and has a burning passion to help others.

This is clearly shown in her role as a peer support worker where she draws on her own lived experience to facilitates group activities and programs to help those living with mental illness.

“I really enjoy helping others, whether it’s working with them to reach their goals or supporting them to overcome challenges,” said Venus.

“The best part of being a peer support worker is knowing that you are helping others to improve their mental wellbeing and having a positive impact in their life.”

Venus has held previous roles with Services Australia through which she has gained extensive knowledge of the sector and is currently studying a diploma in mental health.

Beyond her dedication to the mental health sector and supporting the wellbeing of regional Queenslanders, Venus maintains a healthy work-life balance, enjoying time at the beach or family gatherings.

It is her commitment to helping others, her family, and to wellbeing that led her to her role within selectability, a move she encourages others to take when given the opportunity.

“If you love helping others become the best version of themselves even if it is little steps, then you will love working in this sector.”

Venus is looking forward to welcoming the Moranbah community to the official opening of the Mental Health Hub on Thursday 13 July 2023. You can register your interest in the event HERE
