Meet the Team: Julie Ross

10 July 2023

Meet Julie – she has been working with selectability for the last four and a half years and has recently been appointed as Regional Coordinator for Ingham.

In her role, Julie is responsible for the day-to-day operations of selectability in Ingham, including building and leading a local team.

“Part of my job is to collaborate with management along with other coordinators and leaders to work towards bringing new programs to Ingham and leverage the ones that we already have operating,” Julie said.

Born in Townsville and raised in the Burdekin, Julie’s connection and devotion to North Queensland communities extend far beyond professional.

“I am proud to be working for an organisation where the values in place are the ones that I strongly align with in my own personal life and culture.

“I am an Aboriginal Australian and have spent all my life defending my culture to everyone, as with the generation I grew up with I found that I was not accepted by either Indigenous or non-Indigenous people.

“I have always been extremely proud of my culture.”

Starting with selectability as an LSW, Julie has been proactive in maximising opportunities to progress her career with the organisation.

Julie studied Cert III in Individual Support and Cert IV in Mental Health and is currently working towards her Diploma in Mental Health.

For Julie, maintaining a dedicated work/life balance is made simple through a healthy relationship with her workmates.

“The people you work with become a part of your life.

“I've been able to form some great friendships and I have been supported through some of the most challenging times in my life.

“Supporting your staff is important, we work in Mental Health and the work that we all do day to day can be quite draining, yet so rewarding.

“I now have a new challenge with a new role, and it allows me to become a part of a new team.

“I am grateful to work at selectability where we have these opportunities.

Throughout the last four and a half years, Julie has become a proven asset to selectability, and is looking to use her skillset to deliver on-the-ground support to the Ingham region.

“I am currently carrying out interviews to be able to build a large team of staff which will allow us to be able to continue to increase our capacity and grow and strengthen our relationships with the Ingham community.

“The best part of all jobs I have had at selectability is watching our consumers grow and achieve their goals, no matter how big or small the achievement is.”
