Meet the team: Bradley Baker

8 August 2022

Meet Bradley, our regional coordinator in Palm Island.

Brad who originally hails from New Zealand has been working in community services since 2019 joined the selectability team in late 2021.

“I started with selectability working as a lifestyle support worker before the opportunity to progress to regional coordinator became available,” said Brad.

Established in 2015 selectability (Palm Island's only community managed mental health organisation)  has become part of the fabric of the Palm Island community committed to providing culturally safe services to improve the mental wellbeing locals.

The people of Palm trust selectability to provide culturally safe services. The welcoming and safe environment of selectability’s hub offers individuals an opportunity for socialising and networking that addresses the isolation and loneliness felt by many on Palm Island.

“Currently we run regular men’s and women’s groups that provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to yarn, make friends, learn new skills and develop community connections.

“An important part of our programs is the emphasis on self-determination and the ability to develop strong connections to culture, spirituality, land and ancestry,” explained Brad.

Services to run out of the Palm Island Mental Health Hub include NDIS individual and group programs, clinical services (via telehealth) and carer supports.
