All welcome at selectability's Mental Health Hubs

17 February 2022

With the COVID-19 pandemic heading into its third year, selectability’s Chief Operating Officer Aaron Farrell is reminding regional Queenslanders to take advantage of the organisation’s open door policy to seek mental wellbeing support if they need it.

selectability’s Mental Health Hub’s positioned across our regional Queensland footprint (extending north to Cairns, south to Rockhampton, west to Mount Isa and east to Palm Island) all work on the same open door policy and our strong community networks mean that we can link you to a range of complementary supports.

Aaron said the friendly and professional staff at each location were available to connect individuals across our diverse communities to the services they required to improve mental wellbeing and prevent suicide.

“If you or anyone you know is in need of support direct them to selectability,” said Aaron.

“The pandemic has had a huge impact on all of us, either indirectly or directly and it’s important to ensure that we are still connected with community, family and friends to ensure that our own mental health and wellbeing remains a high priority, even with all the distractions going on.

“selectability’s open door policy works to ensure that everyone is given the chance to access vital support including counselling and therapeutic services…connection is important.

“Our Mental Health Hubs are safe, non-judgemental places where people can come together. There no referrals required and we welcome everyone to walk in and have a chat to our teams,” said Aaron.

“We really can all be blinded by our own mental health at times, when something happens suddenly, there are a lot of people who don’t know where to go. What we do know is that there is a lot of don’t want to go to a psychologist, or go to a clinician or the hospital,” said Aaron.

“selectability Mental Health Hubs can guide you in the right direction if you are feeling overwhelmed and lost. We can give you guiding support and provide you with information to help you access services that are right for your recovery.

“We really do need to change, Australian’s have that ‘rough and tough’ mentality that ‘she’ll be right mate’ – but we have to start opening up conversations around mental health and wellbeing and being able to have those talks comfortably.”
