The rapid growth in initiatives like the NDIS means that more and more jobs are becoming available. To keep up with the increasing demand for qualified mental health professional selectability Training has added another course to its scope…the Diploma in Mental Health (CHC53315).

This advanced qualification can help students achieve both personal and professional goals.

Expert trainer, Denis O’Brien, will guide students through this nationally recognised qualification and equip them with the tools and resources for a successful career in the mental health industry.

Denis has extensive experience in the mental health sector holding various positions across his 20 year career.

“I have been passionate for about mental health since I started as a student. I I have worked in both hospital and community-based services including in acute, rehabilitation, aged, mental health and drug and alcohol services.”

Working as a trainer for more than 10 years, Denis has expert knowledge that can only be developed from industry experience.

“I encourage all those who work in mental health and want enhance their skills and knowledge and take the next step in their career to  apply to study the Diploma (in mental health).”

Students can expect to learn a whole range of mental health related subjects from the online self-supported course including;

  • supporting clients who are on a recovery journey after experiencing significant mental health issues or illnesses
  • completing, screenings, assessments and recovery plans
  • advocacy and case management
  • suicide and supporting clients
  • complex trauma suicide and supporting clients
  • working with diversity and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture
  • self-care professional development and avoiding vicarious trauma and burnout


As the lead trainer and assessor, Denis will work with students to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of each unit. Weekly “Zoom-Live classes” will enable Denis to support and encourage students through their individual study journey.

 

“Online study really is perfect for those who want to work at their own pace and who are unable to attend a classroom for face-to-face lessons. You will receive one-on-one support from me when you need it and I will be on hand to offer feedback on your assessments,” says Denis.
