Meet the Team - Shelley Gowley

4 December 2023

Meet Shelley! She has been diligently working as team leader – supported independent living (SIL) in Townsville for the past 9 months.

SIL is an NDIS support package designed to help a person with a disability live as independently. This can be provided in the consumers own home or in one of selectability’s many supported homes across our footprint.

Part of Shelley’s role is to coordinate a passionate team with the ultimate goal of helping consumers build their capacity in their choice of accommodation.

“I am responsible for coordinating the team so that our consumers’ support is in line with their NDIS goals as well as assisting them to live independently at home,” said Shelley.

“I also provide leadership and support, supervision, direction for 27 employees on a day-to-day basis with oversight of the SIL property operation.”

Born and raised in Townsville, Shelley has an extensive 15-year experience of managing SILs in the region, including adult and child youth services.

And yet, Shelley’s background is graciously overshadowed by her commitment to her team and consumers, as well as her overwhelming passion for making a lasting impact on the lives of others.

“I love many aspects of my role here at selectability.

“Every day my cup is filled when I am among my amazing team of lifestyle support workers and consumers, because we make such a difference in their lives.

“I chose this industry as I want to make a difference in the consumers’ lives … I like to see them reach their goals and live life its fullest.”

What Shelley does in her day to day, along with her team demonstrates selectability’s values and makes a real difference to the lives of consumers across 4 properties in the Townsville region.

“It is the small things my team and I can do with our consumers that means so much to them.”
