Meet the team: Heather Lewis

23 August 2021

Heather joined selectability two years ago as a peer worker on the selectwellbeing groups program and recently stepped into the role of support coordinator and psychosocial recovery coach.

In her new role she will be supporting individuals in the Ayr, Charters Towers, Ingham and Palm Island communities to understand the services available, how they can assist, and coordinate with them in achieving their goals within their individualised NDIS budgets.  This will be the first time people in the region will also have access to psychosocial recovery coaching, a new NDIS service designed to guide goals into personal workable steps in their recovery.

Heather, who speaks openly about her past mental health challenges, feels that having lived experience makes it easier to relate to the individuals she supports and helps to establish open working relationships.

“Being open about my own mental health journey helps me relate to consumers and work together in a meaningful way,” said Heather.

“Making mental illness a part of everyday conversation really helps to reduce stigma and provides people with the knowledge that they are supported in their recovery.”

Each month Heather will visit the regional outlets to meet with NIDS consumers to help them coordinate their support and work towards their goals.
