selectability officially opens new Wellbeing Hub in Richmond

15 June 2025

selectability officially opened Richmond’s first dedicated Wellbeing Hub at a community event last week.

The Hub offers a central, welcoming space where locals can connect and access vital wellbeing services that have previously been unavailable in the region.

selectability’s regional coordinator and Richmond local, Renee Backer, said the initiative was developed in response to urgent community need.

“Last year, as part of our consultation, over 90% of survey respondents told us Richmond desperately needed accessible wellbeing support,” said Renee.

“The Wellbeing Hub is our response. It’s a safe, inclusive space where anyone can walk in—no referral or appointment needed.

“Whether it’s one-on-one support or group programs, we’re here to help people build resilience, foster connections, and enhance their wellbeing, all without leaving town.

“Our services include NDIS supports as well as state and federally funded programs, ensuring everyone has access—regardless of whether they’re on the NDIS.”

Richmond Shire Council Mayor John Wharton welcomed the launch and the benefits the Hub will bring to the region.

“This is a game-changer for our small community,” said Mayor Wharton.

“Finally, locals can access vital services without travelling hours. It’s about dignity, access, and looking after our own.

Mayor Wharton also acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the project.

“Council has worked closely with selectability and local stakeholders to ensure the Hub’s services are tailored to our community’s unique needs.

"Plus, it’s fantastic to see the old fire station put to such meaningful use.”

selectability CEO, Debra Burden, said the Hub reflected the organisation’s commitment to regional Queensland.

“selectability’s focus is caring for people in regional and remote Queensland,” said Ms Burden.

“Whether it’s NDIS support, aged care, mental wellbeing programs, child and family care services, or skills training through our RTO – we go where communities need and what us.

“The new Richmond Wellbeing Hub is our strategic plan in action: responding when communities ask for our support.

“Right now, we’re finalising plans for future growth. If your community needs our services, reach out – just like Richmond did. Together, we can build healthier futures."
