Kalo: championing community connection this Men’s Health Week
As we recognise Men’s Health Week, selectability is proud to highlight the dedicated people in our team who are making a difference across the regions we serve.
One of those is Townsville-based Program Coordinator, Kalo, who joined selectability six weeks ago.
With a background in youth and community development, case management, and program coordination, Kalo brings a strong commitment to collaboration, equity, and community wellbeing.
“I promote equality in society, support people to achieve successful outcomes in life and enjoy working collaboratively in community,” said Kalo.
Kalo’s role at selectability involves coordinating funded program operations while providing leadership and guidance to program delivery staff.
He said it’s the positive culture and outward-facing approach that drew him to the role.
“I enjoy the positive attitude the organisation operates with both internally and externally in community.
Originally from North Brisbane, Kalo has lived in Townsville for more than 15 years and says the Queensland coastline has always had his heart.
He’s passionate about spending time with family and friends, whether it’s at the beach, at sport on the weekends, or on holidays.
Reflecting on Men’s Health Week, Kalo shared why the week is important to him, both personally and for the wider community.
“Men’s Health Week is an important reminder for men to consider their own health, but also for everyone collectively to consider the health of the men in their lives and in their community,” he said.
“It’s about highlighting and acknowledging some of the health conditions and impacts that are statistically higher in men.”
For those considering a successful future in the sector, Kalo’s advice is simple.
“This sector can be very rewarding. It also has lots of different areas of employment and is growing.”
“Accountability is a powerful strength, own your responsibilities and enjoy successful outcomes.”
Currently Kalo is involved in the innovative Empowered Youth Program supporting both young men and women to set and demonstrate how the right opportunities combined with a supportive environment, can create life-changing pathways for young people.
The Empowered Youth Program is now taking enrolments for the Certificate I in Hospitality proudly supported by the Queensland Government in many locations across Queensland.
