Meet Chanelle – helping recipients access the NDIS
For Townsville service navigator, Chanelle, helping individuals to understand and access the NDIS is more than just a job, it’s a passion grounded in community and person-centred support.
A lifelong Townsville local and proud mum of three, Chanelle has been part of the selectability team for two years.
She started as lifestyle support worker before stepping into her current role as a service navigator, where she helps individuals navigate the process of accessing the NDIS.
“In my role, I support individuals with understanding the NDIS, securing the right supports, and gathering the documentation they need for applications like the Disability Support Pension and public housing,” said Chanelle.
“It’s incredibly rewarding when someone achieves a positive outcome in an area where I’ve been able to guide and support them.”
Chanelle’s work is built around the belief that every individual deserves tailored support that reflects their unique circumstances, goals, and strengths.
“I have come to understand that each individual’s needs are distinct and must be approached with personalised consideration rather than comparison.”
Her person-centred approach is key to helping recipients build confidence, develop independence, and connect more meaningfully with their community.
Before joining selectability, Chanelle spent 12 years raising her children as a stay-at-home parent.
She returned to the workforce with a deep commitment to mental health and a desire to make a difference.
“I have a strong and enduring commitment to mental health advocacy, with a focus on reducing the stigma that often surrounds it,” said Chanelle.
“Working in this field lets me contribute to creating a more accepting and supportive environment for people who are doing it tough.”
What Chanelle loves most about her role is the meaningful outcomes she gets to be part of every day.
“I find working at selectability both professionally stimulating and personally rewarding. The role presents diverse challenges, but it’s the positive outcomes that make it all worthwhile.
“Working alongside a supportive and dedicated team also makes a huge difference.”
When it comes to advice for others considering a role in the sector, Chanelle is quick to encourage it.
“If you're passionate about mental health, I would highly recommend this field,” she said.
“It can be challenging but it’s also incredibly rewarding, and there are always opportunities to grow within this company.”
Outside of work, Chanelle enjoys singing and music — hobbies she often brings into her day-to-day role.
“The recipients at the Mental Health Hub often hear me singing during karaoke or group activities. I’m not the greatest singer, but we always end up having a laugh.”
Through her work, Chanelle is helping individuals reach their goals, grow in confidence, and find their place in the community — with support that truly fits them.
