From Mount Isa to Burdekin: a new start with the same great support
Whether it’s a quick game of Uno or a round of bowling with friends, the Burdekin Clubhouse is where friendships are formed and confidence is built and for 24-year-old Emma, it’s become a second home.
After relocating to the Burdekin region from Mount Isa, Emma was already familiar with selectability’s services.
“I’ve been with selectability for about three and a half years now. Three in Mount Isa, and the past six months here in the Burdekin,” said Emma.
Now, with her two dogs Smudge and Sassie by her side, she’s settling into a new routine and embracing everything her new community has to offer.
“I access NDIS community support, the Clubhouse program, and have a support coordinator who helps me stay on track with my goals.”
Since joining the Clubhouse, she’s been involved in group activities that help build independence, confidence and social connection.
“I really like the bowling league on Wednesdays, all of the group activities help me make new friends and I love winning!”
Emma also enjoys cooking in the Hub with her support worker, playing music, and having a coffee and a chat with other members.
“We play Uno and Yahtzee, and it’s just fun being around everyone. I’ve become comfortable with all the support workers and the other Clubhouse members.”
The move to Burdekin came with its challenges, but the consistency of support and selectability’s welcoming environment made the transition easier.
“selectability gets me out of the house and supports me to do stuff so I’m not stuck at home all day. They help me work towards my goals and keep me motivated.”
selectability’s Burdekin team is proud to provide meaningful programs that meet people where they’re at, offering more than just support, but a sense of belonging.
“I’m really enjoying the Clubhouse here, it’s helped me settle in, meet new people, and keep doing the things I enjoy.”
