selectability partners with online peer support service to increase reach

12 March 2018

The reach and connectivity of one of Australia’s key online mental health peer support service is set to increase with selectability’s launch of SANE Forums today.

SANE Forums provide a safe and anonymous online space for individuals, families, friends and carers with mental health concerns to connect and share experiences.

selectability CEO Debra Burden said the innovative online forums used technology to connect people with others who understand what they’re going through.

“It’s important for people to have access to support and feel connected to community. SANE Forums allow people with lived experience of mental health difficulties to link up, share stories, tips and offer support in a safe, moderated environment,” Ms Burden said.

“As a regionally-based service provider it is important for us to give our consumers, their families and carers a range of options to stay supported and connected.

“The expanding network of SANE Forums means that people who are geographically or socially isolated have the opportunity to become part of a welcoming and caring peer support community.”

SANE Australia CEO Jack Heath said it was important for the mental health sector to work together to achieve better outcomes for those affected by mental illness.

“We partner with 50 mental health organisations, including selectability, to syndicate the reach of our online forums,” said Mr Heath.

“The forums launched in 2015 and in that short time we’ve reached more than 245,000 people, many of those in rural and regional Australia where access to mental health support can be limited.

“We’re proud to partner with selectability to reach thousands more people dealing with complex mental illness.”

The forums are monitored 24/7 by mental health professionals, allowing people to talk openly with others about their challenges and experiences, offer support and insight, and share other helpful resources.
