Introducing The Way Back Support Service
A Beyond Blue suicide prevention service has been launched in Mount Isa to support people’s recovery after a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis.
The Way Back Support Service supports people during the critical three-month period following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis.

About the service
selectability is pleased to partner with Beyond Blue and the Western Queensland Primary Health Network to deliver The Way Back Support Service across the Mount Isa region
The service, developed by Beyond Blue, supports people during the critical three-month period following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis.
How the service works
A person referred to The Way Back is assigned a selectability Support Coordinator. We support individuals through the first three months in their recovery providing non-clinical care. Support includes helping to build a personalised safety plan and linking individuals to community and clinical services to ensure connection to essential support during this critical stage.
This innovative service aims to:
- improve access to high-quality aftercare to support at risk individuals to stay safe
- build an individual’s capacity to manage distress and improve mental wellbeing
- improve links with clinical and community-based services increase social connectedness and links to supportive networks (families, friends, peers and carers)
Eligibility
If a person presents to the Mount Isa hospital emergency department or a community mental health service following a suicide attempt, or a suicidal crisis and whose risk of suicide is identified as imminent, they will be referred to The Way Back Support Service.
This one-on-one support from selectability Mount Isa helps motivate people to keep connected and alive.
Note selectability is not a crisis response service
