Rugby League great visits Palm Island with selectability ILC program

Rugby league legend Gorden Tallis has shown his support to Palm Island young people this week - in collaboration with selectability’s ILC program, PCYC, Ignatius Park College and Townsville based charity ‘Fuel for Schools.’  

The team visited the island over two days to discuss breaking the stigma of seeking mental health support, and where to find it in the community.  

selectability program coordinator Daniel said the event was a strong collaboration between local service providers, schools and charities.  

“To have Gorden come to Palm Island has been fantastic,” said Daniel.  

“But the support from local Palm Island services like the PCYC, as well as Townsville’s Ignatius Park College and Fuel for Schools has been so important in delivering vital support to young people in the community.” 
 
Funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the ILC program aims to increase community participation for young people living with psychosocial disabilities. 

“We are looking forward to working with more local services in the future to build more positive outcomes for young people on Palm Island.”  

Senior students from Ignatius Park College Darnell and Taj also spoke about the importance of staying safe outside of school and knowing who to go to for support.  

Mr Tallis then joined the community for a game of footy, fishing and art with selectability recipients.
