Palm Island

selectability is Palm Island's only community mental health service. Since establishing in 2015 we have become part of the fabric of the Palm Island community, committed to providing culturally safe services to improve the mental wellbeing of locals.

We run regular men's and women's groups that provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to yarn, make friends, learn new skills and develop community connections.

We work collaboratively with other Palm Island service providers to support key community events and activities. We have a strong community presence and actively engage in local events such as NAIDOC week, Centenary celebrations, DV Network and Spring Fair, and Mental Health Week where we promote the reduction of stigma and misunderstanding around mental health.

The people of Palm trust selectability to provide culturally safe services. The welcoming and safe environment of selectability’s Mental Health Hub offers individuals the opportunity to connect and overcome loneliness.

Before establishing the service on Palm Island in 2015, we spent time consulting with with local leaders, key stakeholders and other service providers to ensure that selectability's offering would be tailored to the diverse needs of Palm Island residents and accepted by the community.
