 Carers Australia

Carers provide support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail. More than one in eight Australians provide care of this kind. The purpose of Carers Australia is to improve the lives of carers. They provide important services like counselling, advice, advocacy, education and training. They also promote the recognition of carers to governments, businesses and the public.


Centrelink is the contact point for payment, allowances and pensions. It is part of the Department of Human Services.

Coast to Country Housing Company

Coast to Country (C2C) Housing Company is a Townsville based not-for-profit Community Housing organisation that provides social and affordable housing to disadvantaged people within the community.

Community Information Centre

The Community Information Centre Townsville Inc (CIC) is a not-for-profit community organisation funded primarily by Townsville City Council. The Centre was established in 1976 as a volunteer organisation and has since continued to provide information to residents, a wide range of community groups and government departments. It provides current, accurate and comprehensive information and referral to Townsville services.

Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services

The Queensland government department is responsible for disability services in Queensland.

Department of Social Services

The federal government department that is responsible for a range of services including housing support, disability and carers, communities and vulnerable people.

Food Relief

Food Relief NQ is supported by a strong, dedicated band of volunteers. Registered welfare and community groups such as Lifeline, St Vincent de Paul Society, Salvation Army, NQ combined Women's Services, and Community & Aged Care Service just to name a few are then able to distribute Family Food Hampers to the needy at a far reduced cost.

Heads Up

Mentally healthy workplaces work better for everyone, and Heads Up is all about giving individuals and businesses free tools and resources to take action.


A free service for young people aged 12 to 25 years, providing a range of services at no cost. They provide GP consultation, counselling, skill building, drug and alcohol counselling, groups such as DRUMBEAT, young women's group, physical activities group, creative arts groups and information on almost anything and everything for young people.

Independent Advocacy Townsville

This independent not-for-profit organisation provides support and advocacy for people living with a disability.

Lifeline North Queensland 

Lifeline North Queensland provides many services to the community including 24 hour Telephone Crisis Counselling at the cost of a local call. A face to face counselling service is also available.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The National Disability Insurance Scheme is the new way of providing individualised support for eligible people with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers. Queensland will be transitioning from the current model to the NDIS shortly.

National Mental Health Commission

The official website of the National Mental Health Commission.

Office of the Health Ombudsman

The Ombudsman receives and investigates complaints about health services and health service providers, including registered and unregistered health practitioners.

Queensland Alliance for Mental Health

The official website of the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health. The peak industry body representing the Queensland mental health sector.

Red Cross provides relief in times of crisis and care when its needed most.

The Office of The Public Guardian

The Office of The Public Guardian is an independent statutory body that protects the rights and interests of vulnerable Queenslanders.

The Public Trustee

The Public Trustee is a self funding statutory authority that can deliver a full range of trustee services in a supportive, compassionate and ethical manner.

Townsville Mental Health Service Group

The Townsville Mental Health Service Group provides a range of mental health services across the Townsville Health and Hospital Service area to meet the tertiary mental health needs of people living in North Queensland.

Townsville Intercultural Centre

Townsville Intercultural Centre services the settlement needs of humanitarian entrants, women, youth, the elderly, new and emerging communities, refugees and migrants settling in North Queensland.

Townsville Multicultural Support Group

The Townsville Multicultural Support Group is a not for profit organisation that works with refugees and migrants to make their transition to Australia smooth.

Volunteering North Queensland

Volunteering North Queensland serves the community by referring volunteers to other not-for-profit organisations. Staff at VNQ work to ensure suitable placements for the mutual benefit of the volunteer and the organisation.
