Meet the team: Susan Tydd

After spending more than four decades in Longreach, Susan Tydd knows the value of community connection and supporting people through all stages of life.

Susan recently joined selectability as a lifestyle support worker, bringing both lived experience and a genuine passion for helping others into her role.

Supporting recipients with day-to-day activities, appointments and individual goals, Susan works alongside people to build life skills and encourage greater independence in ways that are meaningful to them.

“Supporting our recipients with individual life skills and working towards their goals is very varied,” Susan said.

“It can involve taking people to appointments, shopping and everyday support.”

Susan worked in a similar role in Brisbane for seven years before deciding to return home to Longreach. Her connection to the sector is deeply personal, shaped by lived experience supporting family members living with disability.

“I have lived experience with family members having a diagnosis, living with a disability.”

That personal understanding continues to guide the empathy and patience she brings to her work each day.

Although only two months into her role at selectability, Susan says she has already felt welcomed by the Longreach team and is looking forward to continuing to grow within the sector.

“I love working at selectability because the team have been so helpful.

“I’m looking forward to being able to further my career.

“I enjoy working with a diverse group of people and learning from them.”

Since joining selectability, she has developed a greater understanding of the different mental wellbeing challenges people can face and the importance of tailored support.

For anyone considering entering the sector, Susan encourages them to embrace the opportunity.

“Go for it.

“It’s a sector you can learn and achieve lots.”
