Meet the team: Madeline Sizeland

For Moranbah local Madeline, working as a lifestyle support worker is about more than day-to-day support. 

It is about helping recipients feel empowered, respected and supported to work towards the goals that matter to them. 
 
After relocating from the Sunshine Coast, Madeline has embraced life in Moranbah and the close-knit nature of the community.  

Working in a regional setting has strengthened her appreciation for connection, both within the community and through the relationships she builds with recipients. 
 
“I am loving the tight knit community here in Moranbah,” said Madeline. 
 
Madeline has worked in the disability and community services sector for four years and brings a strong foundation of skills and experience to her role.  

She holds a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) and a Diploma of Community Services, qualifications that reflect her long-standing commitment to the sector. 
 
Her work is grounded in a person-centred approach, supporting recipients to build confidence, develop skills and exercise choice and control in their everyday lives. 
 
“I love being able to help others and the community in such a positive way. 

Through her role, Madeline has developed a deeper understanding of what meaningful support looks like.  
 
“Independence looks different for everyone. Doing something alone isn’t independence. It’s having choice and control. 

“Behaviour is communication. Challenging behaviours usually signal unmet needs, pain, frustration, fear, or sensory overload, not bad behaviour. 
 
This understanding shapes how she supports recipients, ensuring they feel heard, respected and supported in ways that work for them. 
 
For those considering a career in the sector, Madeline believes it is important to approach the role with care and professionalism. 
 
“I think it is important to join the sector for the right reasons,” she said.  

“Caring is important, but so is respect, patience and professionalism. This job affects the everyday lives of recipients who count on us.” 
 
Outside of work, Madeline enjoys camping and spending time with friends and family, making the most of time outdoors and the connections that matter most to her. 
 
Through her work with selectability, Madeline continues to support recipients to build confidence, strengthen independence and find their place within the community.
