Meet the team: Leonie Moss

As selectability celebrates 30 years of supporting regional Queensland communities, employees like Leonie Moss reflect the values that have shaped the organisation over three decades through her role as life coach.

Based in Mackay, Leonie supports Clubhouse members through group programs and daily engagement.

Her role centres on helping people build confidence, strengthen life skills and connect with others in a supportive environment. 

“The best part of my job is it is never boring,” said Leonie. 

“My days are never straight forward which keeps it interesting.

“That and the people, my immediate team of life coaches are outstanding, and our Clubhouse members are an eclectic bunch of superstars.”

Leonie joined selectability just over two years ago, initially working as a lifestyle support worker before stepping into her current role.

“For the last 10 or so years I had friends and family working in the sector who kept telling me I would be good at it.

“I had a few misconceptions about the industry, but those have all been quashed since I started working here.

Leonie describes herself as a “hardcore Queenslander.”  

Growing up in the central part of the state, on a cattle property near a coal mining town, she has spent most of her life moving throughout the state before eventually returning to the Mackay region.

“I’ve spent the last 30 plus years roaming all over Queensland and always returned to the Mackay region,” she said.

Across her working life, Leonie has built experience in a wide range of industries including farming, construction, mining, retail and hospitality. That diverse background has shaped a practical approach to supporting others and understanding different walks of life.

Since joining selectability, Leonie says she has learned two of the most valuable lessons in her work with Clubhouse members.

“You definitely need patience. Lots and lots of patience.

“That and consistency counts more than you think it would. Showing up every day and sticking to routines is essential for positive results.”

For those considering a role in the sector, Leonie believes the work is both challenging and rewarding.

“It’s not for everyone and that’s ok,” she said.

“But, If you feel it is for you, you definitely won’t regret it.”

Outside of work, Leonie enjoys spending time outdoors and values time with her family. As a carer for her husband, family life plays a central role in her time outside the workplace.

Through her work at the Mackay Clubhouse, Leonie helps create a space where members can connect, build confidence and feel part of a supportive community.
