Meet the team: David Langan

Palm Island regional coordinator David plays a key role in supporting local services and ensuring recipients receive high-quality, person-centred care. 

Working alongside the island’s team leader, support coordinator and lifestyle support workers, David’s focus is on providing guidance, building relationships and helping the team deliver meaningful outcomes for the community. 

“In my role as regional coordinator, I work closely with the team to provide guidance and support,” said David.

“I also spend time with recipients, which helps me stay connected to the people we’re here to support.” 

David joined selectability in 2024 as a team leader before stepping into his current role in early 2025.  

His leadership is shaped by both his professional experience and his respect for the island’s unique culture and community. 

“Working in a remote community, my biggest learning so far has been the importance of being respectful and knowledgeable of local customs and traditions. 

“It’s not just about providing support; it’s about doing it the right way, with respect.” 

Although Palm Island is central to his work life, David’s journey began in a very different setting.  

“I’m a Townsville local originally who returned home in January 2025 after living all over the country. 

“After years in retail, I was ready for a change, to something that felt more meaningful.” 

That change came during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he decided to move into the disability support sector. 

“I was concerned that if retail stores closed, I’d be out of work.

“I saw an opportunity to get into an industry where I’d be considered an essential worker, and I haven’t looked back.” 

Now, David says what he enjoys most about selectability is the sense of purpose and the people he works alongside. 

“The thing I love most about selectability is that it’s truly a great place to work.

“We have amazing leaders who are transparent about how we’re performing, and a dedicated group of lifestyle support workers who show genuine care for our recipients.” 

Outside of work, David enjoys being back in North Queensland, spending time with family and celebrating life’s little milestones. 

“I’m enjoying being able to spend so much time with my family now that I’m home. 

“Especially my two-year-old twin nephew and niece, and another niece who’s just about to turn three, there’s always a reason to celebrate.” 

David’s advice for anyone considering a role in the sector is simple: 

“Do it - working within the support industry delivers a real sense of personal accomplishment when you realise the meaningfulness and purpose of what you do.”
