Meet the team: Daniel Jakob

For almost three and a half years, Daniel Jakob has been contributing to selectability’s  commitment to supporting regional Queenslanders through person-centred NDIS services and community programs. 

Beginning his journey as a support coordinator, Daniel has since stepped into the role of program coordinator, where he now supports young people across Palm Island and Mount Isa through the Information Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program. 

Funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the ILC program aims to increase community participation for young people living with psychosocial disabilities. 

Through the program Daniel works directly with First Nations and culturally diverse people aged 7 - 21, families and local organisations to increase participation in everyday activities such as sport, art, culture and recreation.  

 “ILC focuses on creating welcoming and inclusive environments and developing tools that are shaped by the needs of each region,” said Daniel. 

“By strengthening communities and promoting approaches that respect culture and local knowledge, the program helps young people feel confident, stay connected and receive the support they need to work toward their goals.” 

Daniel’s move into the sector reflects the same passion he brings to his work each day. 

“I have always had a passion to educate and support those with mental health struggles,” he said. 

“Personally, I have witnessed these struggles and understand the need for help.” 

Before joining selectability, Daniel spent three years as a youth residential worker, progressing from support roles into a clinical care manager position working with young people experiencing trauma. 

He later worked as a client coordinator before shifting into mental wellbeing with selectability. 

“Working alongside recipients to achieve their goals and assisting them to find the strength and motivation inside themselves is the best part of my job. 

“Passion and compassion are two key drivers that build connection and can really have a great impact on someone’s life when getting help.” 

This approach is central to how he works with young people in remote communities, where trust, communication and cultural understanding play an essential role in supporting long term outcomes. 

Daniel’s commitment to supporting First Nations youth and improving access to services through the ILC program reflects selectability’s aim for stronger and more connected regional, rural and remote Queensland communities.
