Meet the Team: Chanelle Bryen
Knowing where to turn for support can be life changing. As a service navigator, Chanelle helps recipients navigate services, access the support they need and build confidence as they work towards improved mental wellbeing and greater independence.
Based in Townsville, Chanelle has been part of the selectability team for almost three years, beginning as a lifestyle support worker before progressing into service navigation. Today, she works alongside recipients to understand their needs and connect them with services that support their goals.
“My role involves supporting my recipients gain access to several support needs and services dependent on what they need or require,” Chanelle said.
Chanelle spent 12 years as a stay-at-home mum before joining selectability. Combined with her previous leadership experience in retail, she says those years helped shape the communication, organisation and resilience she brings to her role today.
“I am genuinely passionate about my role here at selectability, as it allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
“Supporting people to navigate services, build confidence, and access the right care is incredibly rewarding.”
As we mark the beginning of Loneliness Awareness Week, Chanelle says her work is a reminder that meaningful connection can have a lasting impact on someone’s wellbeing.
“To me, Loneliness Awareness Week highlights the importance of taking the time to genuinely listen, build trust, and create opportunities for people to reconnect with their communities.
“Sometimes the most valuable support I can offer isn’t solving every problem, it’s making someone feel heard, valued, and less alone.”
Through her role, Chanelle has developed a deeper understanding of the importance of tailoring support to each person’s circumstances while creating safe, trusting relationships.
“I’ve learned how to recognise and respond to a wide range of mental health concerns, tailoring support to each individual’s unique situation.
“I’ve developed strong skills in building trust, creating safe spaces, and communicating with empathy and respect.”
For those considering a career in the sector, Chanelle believes empathy and a willingness to learn are essential.
“I would encourage anyone entering the mental health sector to approach the work with openness, patience, and a genuine willingness to learn.”
Outside of work, Chanelle enjoys spending quality time with her children, husband and extended family.
Whether connecting someone to the right service or simply taking the time to listen, Chanelle believes meaningful support begins with genuine human connection, ensuring recipients know they do not have to face life’s challenges alone.
