Meet the team: Brylee Staples

10 March 2025

For Townsville-based program coordinator Brylee Staples, creativity and community support go hand in hand.

Born and raised in Townsville, Brylee has always had a passion for the arts. As a musician and performer, she understands the power of connection—a value that underpins her work at selectability.

With nearly three years at selectability, Brylee has held multiple roles across the organisation, from lifestyle support worker to RTO administration and facilitated coach for Carer Gateway.

Now, as program coordinator, she manages Wadda Mooli - The Welcome Space, delivered in a partnership between selectability and the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

The service provides urgent non-clinical support for people presenting to the Townsville University Hospital emergency department (ED) in emotional distress and crisis.

“My role is about using government grants and funding to create and sustain community support programs,” she said.

“Knowing we are making a difference in people’s lives is incredibly rewarding.”

Having transitioned from retail management into the community services sector, Brylee was drawn to the opportunity to contribute to mental health and wellbeing in a meaningful way.

“The most important thing I’ve learned in this role is balance,” she said.

“You can’t pour from an empty cup—taking care of yourself means you can better support the community and your team.”

For those considering a role in the sector, Brylee’s advice is to be adaptable.

“No day is ever the same. It’s a rewarding career, but you need to be open-minded and ready to pivot in an ever-changing environment.”

Outside of work, Brylee’s creative side shines through as an aerialist and vocalist, her passion for performing that can only be outweighed by the love for her dog – Juni.

In many ways, Brylee as person represents the essence of what selectability thrives upon.

A warm personality and unwavering advocacy for mental health, evident in the support Brylee and her team provide to others in a time of crisis at Wadda Mooli – The Welcome Space.

Wadda Mooli – The Welcome Space is open weekdays from 12:45pm – 9:30pm and weekends 12:00pm - 9:30pm. Please call 4433 3912 to confirm the availability of the service. If you are in the ED, a staff member may able to assist you to access the service.
