Thanks to a recent grant from the Mackay Community Foundation, selectability’s Mackay Bike Shed initiative will soon become a reality.

selectability was awarded $20,000 from the foundation to assist in establishing the Mackay Bike Shed and rolling out the ‘On Your Bike for Mental Health Service’.

General Manager, selectability Mackay, Chris Attard, said the funding would go a long way towards setting up the premises and launching the new service.

“We are very grateful for the Mackay Community Foundation’s generous contribution,” said Chris.

This will help us to bring this important service to life and provide an innovative option for people across the Mackay region seeking support for their mental health.”

The Mackay Bike Shed will be located behind selectability’s Mental Health Hub at 11 Wood Street and will provide easy access for Horizon Clubhouse and the Mental Health Hub members, as well as the Mackay community at large, it will include:

  • a bicycle loan base
  • shower facilities
  • a repair station
  • kitchen facilities
  • a dedicated area for pre and post bike ride socialising.

“We look forward to opening the Bike Shed over the coming weeks. Whether you are a keen biking enthusiast or an absolute beginner – this free service is open to all.”

A huge thanks to the Mackay Community Foundation for making this happen.”
