Community coming together at Rockhampton Mental Health Hub

selectability’s Rockhampton Mental Health Hub has been recognised by the local Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) with a certificate of appreciation for opening its doors to the community and building meaningful partnerships.

As part of the appreciation, the QCWA also generously donated dignity bags containing everyday essentials such as soap, deodorant and toothbrushes for people who may present to the hub in need.

selectability Rockhampton team leader Caleb said the recognition reflects what the hub is all about.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the QCWA for their support,” said Caleb.

“Our hub has always been a place where people come together to support each other, whether it be through our care services or through community engagement.”

Support coordinator Lina added that the engagement with QCWA has already created opportunities to connect.

“It’s been wonderful to welcome them into the hub for their regular meetings,” said Lina.

“The dignity bags are very thoughtful, and for someone walking through our doors in need of support, even something small can make a big difference.”

Since its opening earlier this year, the Rockhampton Mental Health Hub has continued to build relationships across the region.

From hosting QCWA events, networking sessions for NDIS providers and support coordinators, to giving the community access to individual and group NDIS supports, as well as range of group programs tailored to individual needs.

Weekly programs include arts and craft, cooking classes and even Dungeons and Dragons sessions, each designed to help people explore, connect and grow their confidence in a safe and welcoming environment.

The QCWA will return on 25 October to host a community cooking class - another opportunity to share skills, stories and support.

Caleb said it is this spirit of collaboration that shows how far the hub has come in such a short time.

“We’re proud of the services we provide, and in the relationships being built here.”
