Bonding at the beach: selectability recipients from Mackay, Townsville and Bowen enjoy day out together

selectability recipients from three locations came together today to enjoy a beach barbeque, make new friends and enjoy a range of activities.  

Townsville Mental Health Hub and Mackay Clubhouse arrived in Bowen to a day of lovely weather and sandy beaches and left with new connections and lasting memories.   

Mackay program coordinator Indiana said the opportunity has been much anticipated.  

“We were supposed to meet up earlier this year, but the weather event set us back, so it has been a great effort to make this happen today,” she said.  

“I think having the opportunity to jump in our van and come down to beautiful Bowen for a day was too good to decline, I have been excited to meet more of my co-workers from across our footprint.”  

Bowen life coach Skyye said holding events like this was a reflection of selectability’s commitment to quality care. 

“Community access is a really big part of the clubhouse program as it is a great way to overcome loneliness, today is all about making new friends and connecting with old ones from different regions.” she said   

Mackay consumer Kay said she was extremely excited about the day out. “This is actually the furthest north of Mackay I have ever been, I don’t think I would have been able to meet such beautiful people if it hadn’t been with selectability,” she said.   

Townsville recipient Shane said he enjoyed making new friends, showing off his cooking skills for the group.  

“It is just not something I would have thought I would be able to do, today has been great, beautiful weather, great food and even better company,” he said.  

The feeling of connection was strong across all three groups, who have already begun planning to reunite again soon. 

Group programs, like selectability’s Clubhouse, are a great way to make friends, learn new skills and connect with your community. Packages are available for those who have an NDIS plan and funding is available for those who don’t.
